Horse in brick stitch

Horse beaded in brick stitch

As you know, 2014 is the year of the Horse in the Chinese zodiac. We already have a tutorial of how to make a beaded 3-D horse at our site and today we will make another horse out of beads. For beading we will use the technique of brick stitch.
We will need:
- seed beads of three colors; I used the seed beads #8 of grey, brown and black colors,
- nylon line 0.25 mm in diameter (you can use a little more thin nylon line) and two needles for weaving (as usual, you can do with one needle only).

I remind you that the basics of brick stitch weaving technique you can study from this tutorial. Also, you should know the techniques required for weaving flat figured products; they are described here.

The whole product requires a long nylon line, but you should consider the fact that both ends of the original line can be used for weaving. So if you take a nylon line of 2 m in length, it should be enough for the entire product.

The weaving pattern is provided below. Next we consider all the steps of weaving in detail.

Step 1.
For the first row choose a row with the largest quantity of beads. It is the row that goes through the mane, body and one of the forelegs of the horse. For this row weave a single chain consisting of 4 brown and 9 gray seed beads. To make such a chain use the technique of parallel weaving (make 13 rows of 1 seed bead in each row). Start weaving on the middle of the nylon line.

Step 2.
The next row consist of 10 grey and 3 brown beads. If the ends of the nylon line have different lengths, start weaving using the shorter end of the line. At the beginning of the row string on the nylon line only one bead (in contrast to weaving a beaded fabric, where at the beginning of each row we usually string two beads at once). The last bead at the end of the row plait in additionally.

Step 3.
The next row consist of 2 brown and 9 grey beads. At the beginning of the row string two beads at once.

Step 4.
9 grey and 2 brown beads. At the beginning of the row string only one bead.

Step 5.
5 grey beads. At the beginning of the row string only one bead.

Step 6.
2 grey, 1 black and 2 grey beads. At the beginning of the row string only one bead.

Now pass the line through the beads so that it came out from the penultimate bead of the current row.

Step 7.
4 grey beads. At the beginning of the row string only one bead.

Step 8.
3 grey beads. At the beginning of the row string two beads at once.

Step 9.

Pass the line through the beads so that it came out from the 4th bead of the 4th row.

Step 10.
4 grey beads. At the beginning of the row string only one bead. The direction of weaving is away from the horse's head.

Weaving of the front part of the horse is completed. Fix the line that was used for weaving, and start weaving the back part of the horse using the other end of the original line that comes out from the 1st row.
