Forget-me-not

Beaded Forget-me-nots

To make beaded forget-me-nots we need:
- size 10 seed beads of blue, yellow and green colors,
- wire 0.2 mm thick,
- aluminum or copper wire 1 mm thick for the base of a stem (I hadn’t got such a thick wire, so I’ve made a stem out of a wire 0.3 mm thick, folded in 8 rows),
- green thread for stem winding,
- a basket, vase or pot into which you’ll place the flowers.

First of all we should make single florets. For each floret take a wire of 20 cm long. String onto the wire 6 blue beads and place them about 5 cm from one of the wire’s ends.

Pass the longer end of the wire backwards through the extreme bead at the other end of the wire.

Make sure that the shorter end of the wire remains at least 5 cm in length and tighten the wire. We’ve got a loop of beads.

Then make another loop of beads near the first one: string onto the longer end of the wire 6 blue beads

and pass this end of the wire backwards through the first of just added beads.

Move all the beads close to the first beaded loop and tighten the wire. We’ve got the second loop of beads.

Next, in the same way make on the longer end of the wire 3 more such loops of beads. So we’ve got 5 beaded loops that lie close to each other.

Then pass the same end of the wire through the underlying bead of the first loop in direction to the center of the floret.

Pull the wire - all the loops merged in a floret.

Then string onto the same end of the wire one yellow bead

and pass this end of the wire through the underlying bead of the fourth loop in direction from the center of the floret.

Pull the wire until it stops

and twist together both ends of the wire. A single floret is finished.

Now take a green thread and wind it round the wire below the floret for the length of about 2 cm.

You should make quite a lot of such single florets for one forget-me-not flower. As for me, I made 21 florets for the each flower and at all made 63 florets for a bouquet of 3 flowers.

Next, out of green seed beads make flower’s leaves. For each leaf take a wire of 40 cm long and make leaves using the parallel weaving technique and the following pattern:
1st row: 1 bead;
2nd row: 2 beads;
3rd row: 3 beads;
4th row: 4 beads;
5th row: 5 beads;
6th row: 6 beads;
rows from 7th to 10th are identical: 7 beads;
11th row: 6 beads;
12th row: 5 beads;
13th row: 4 beads;
14th row: 3 beads;
15th row: 2 beads.

For your convenience twist together both ends of the wire under the leaf.

Take a green thread and wind it round the wire below the leaf for the length of about 3-4 cm.

I made 3 such leaves for the each flower and at all made 9 leaves for a bouquet of 3 flowers.

Start assembling the flower. At first we should twist each three single florets together so that the stalks under the florets were retained untwisted for the length of about 1-1.5 cm.

So out of 63 florets we get 21 flower clusters. We will use 7 such flower clusters for the each flower.

Then wind a green thread round the wire below the flower cluster for the length of about 3 cm.

Now take a thick aluminum or copper wire of about 1 mm in diameter and 15 cm in length for the base of a flower’s stem. I hadn’t got such a thick wire, so I’ve took 8 segments of a wire of 0.3 mm in diameter and twisted them together. So I’ve got a wire rope thick enough to use it as a stem.

Attach one flower cluster to the tip of this thick wire (or a wire rope).

After that wind a wire under the flower cluster with a green thread for some distance.

Then attach to the stem all the other 6 flower clusters placing them circumferentially one below the other.

At the same time continue winding the stem with green thread to hide the wire.

After that attach leaves to the stem placing them circumferentially at one level below the flower clusters.
Complete winding the stem with a green thread for its full length. Fix the thread by tying a knot and trim the excess wires if needed.

One forget-me-not flower is finished.

I made 3 such flowers and put them into a basket. What a lovely bouquet of forget-me-nots has turned out!
