Beaded candy

Candies out of seed beads and round beads

We continue making various beaded items using the technique of making beaded beads that we learned earlier. Today we will make a beaded candy.
For the each candy we will need:
- a 8 mm round bead;
- size 10 czech seed beads of two colors (for the tutorial I used seed beads of blue and yellow colors);
- two seed beads size 8 of a similar color to one of the colors of small seed beads;
- thin nylon fishing line (0,2 mm thick) and a beading needle.

At first, cover a round bead with seed beads using the technique of making beaded beads that we have already learned. Use a line of 80 cm long.

You can cover the round bead with seed beads of a single color, but to make the candy more attractive use seed beads of two colors. While beading the round bead, I used seed beads of blue color for longer rows and seed beads of yellow color for shorter rows. At the end of beading the bead, I missed the last row to get the symmetric pattern of rows (that last row is the most short, it usually consists of 4 seed beads). Of course, in that case there are small gaps between rows, but due to alternating rows of different colors, these gaps are practically invisible on the finished item.
So, to cover the round bead I made 12 rows of seed beads: 8 blue seed beads in the each odd row and 5 yellow seed beads in the each even row. After beading the bead trim the line.

We will use this beaded bead at the final stage of our beadwork, so set it aside for a while and proceed to making ends of a candy wrapper.

We should make two single ends of a candy wrapper. For the each one take the line of 30 cm long.

Step 1:
String onto the line one large seed bead (size 8) and place it at a distance of a few cm from the free end of the line. Pass the needle through this seed bead from the side of the free end of the line.

Tighten the line, thus making a loop and fixing the bead on the line.

Make one more such a loop to be sure the bead is fixed properly.

For further beading use size 10 seed beads.

Step 2:
String beads onto the line in the following sequence: 6 yellow, 3 blue and 6 yellow.

Step 3:
Pass the needle through the large bead in direction to the free end of the line.

Step 4:
Pass the needle backwards through the last added 6 yellow beads.

Tighten the line. The line has made a loop around the large bead.

Step 5:
String 3 blue and 6 yellow beads.

Repeat the Step 3 - pass the needle through the large bead in direction to the free end of the line.

Then repeat the Step 4 - pass the needle backwards through the last added 6 yellow beads

and tighten the line.

Continue making the end of the wrapper in the same way. We need to repeat the Steps 5, 3 and 4 successively two more times to get five segments of yellow beads in it.

After that string onto the line 3 blue beads

and pass the needle through the first segment of 6 yellow beads and further through the large bead.

Pull the line. The end of the candy wrapper is finished.

Now trim the free (short) end of the line. But do not take off the needle from the working end of the line at the moment.

Next, attach the end of the wrapper to the candy. Pass the needle through the round bead’s hole,

pull the line and then secure it by passing the needle two or three times through the rows of seed beads which cover the round bead and through the round bead’s hole. After that trim the excess line.

In the same way make the other end of the wrapper and then attach in to the candy.

The beaded candy is finished! You can make a lot of colorful candies, using seed beads of different colors.
