Rocking chair

Beaded rocking chair

Today we will make another piece of furniture - a rocking chair.

We will need
- seed beads of #8/0 size of two colors (I used seed beads of blue and green colors);
- a piece of 70 cm in length of wire 0.3 mm in diameter.

First, string onto the wire 16 blue beads. Place the set of beads in the middle part of the wire.

Hold 8 consecutive beads at one end of the wire and pass the other end of the wire through them, starting from the extreme bead.

Tighten the wire trying to get one end of the wire about 15 cm longer than the other one. We’ve got the first 2 rows of the chair’s seat.

Then string onto any end of the wire 8 blue beads

and pass the other end of the wire through them.

Tighten the wire. We’ve got the 3rd row of beads.

In the same way make the 4th row; it consists also of 8 blue beads.

The 5th row is similar too, but for this row take seed beads of two colors. First, string onto any end of the wire 3 blue beads, then string 2 green and 3 more blue beads.

After that pass the other end of the wire through all these beads and tighten the wire.

The seat of the rocking chair is completed. Now proceed with making the backrest. Choose the longer end of the wire and string onto it beads in the following order: 3 green, 11 blue, 3 green, 11 blue and 3 green.

Pass the same end of the wire through the first 5 beads from the opposite side of the 5th row of the seat, so that this wire would come out from the green bead.

Pull this end of the wire. The last set of beads has formed a circle above the seat. This circle is the outer limit of the backrest.

Then string onto the same end of the wire 10 green beads

and pass this end of the wire through the 3 green beads in the middle of the backrest’s circle.

Pull this end of the wire tight. The last set of beads has formed the inner slat of the backrest.

Next, string onto the same end of the wire 10 green beads

and pass this end of the wire first through the 2 green beads in the middle of the 5th row of the seat and right after that through the next 3 blue beads in the same row.

Pull this end of the wire tight. The backrest of the rocking chair is completed.

Proceed with making the side parts of the rocking chair (i.e. legs and armrests). First, make legs and armrest at one side. String onto any end of the wire 10 blue beads.

Hold the last added bead and pass this end of the wire backwards through the next 4 beads.

Move all the beads close to the chair and tighten the wire.

Then string onto the same end of the wire 14 blue beads

and, leading this end of the wire from under the seat, pass it between the 1st and the 2nd rows of the seat.

Pull this end of the wire till the last set of beads presses against the seat

and wind this end of the wire around the seat frame between the 1st and the 2nd rows.

Then string onto the same end of the wire 8 green beads

and pass this end of the wire downwards through the 3 green beads that lie on the outer limit of the backrest.

Pull this end of the wire tight

and fix it by winding 2 or 3 times around the rear leg of the rocking chair in the place where this leg is connected to the seat.

Cut the excess wire off.

One side of the rocking chair is completed.

In the same way on the other end of the wire make another side of the rocking chair.

Finally, give to the rocking chair a shape by straightening the armrests, legs and backrest.
The rocking chair is finished!
