Keychain with Gemini (Zodiac sign)

Brick stitch: Keychain with Gemini (Zodiac sign)

We continue a series of keychains with zodiac signs. Today is the turn of Gemini. For beading we will use the technique of brick stitch.
We will need:
- size 8/0 seed beads of eight colors; I used seed beads of light-yellow, green, light-blue, pink, brown, red, blue and black colors,
- nylon fishing line 0.25 mm in diameter and two beading needles (as usual, you can also do with one needle only).

I remind you that the basics of brick stitch beading technique you can learn from this tutorial.

The whole beadwork requires a long line, so I recommend to take a line of a convenient length (about 1 meter) and as soon as it becomes too short you should fasten it, take a new line, weave it into the beadwork and continue weaving using this new segment of line.

The size of my keychain turned to be 5.5x5 cm. If you want your keychain to be smaller, take seed beads of a smaller size, for example, #11/0 (also in this case take a thiner line).

Let’s start weaving. For the first row of the keychain weave a single chain of 17 light-yellow seed beads (hereinafter for simplicity I will call the beads of light-yellow color as just yellow beads). Use the technique of parallel weaving and on the line with two needles make 17 rows of 1 seed bead in the each row. Start weaving not on the middle of the line, but at a distance of about 25-30 cm from one of its ends.

Put the resulting chain horizontally pointing the longer end of the line upwards. As I have already noted, this chain is the first row of our beadwork.

After that continue weaving on the longer end of the line only. The shorter end of the line is not involved in weaving any more, so leave it alone for now. We will secure it at the final stage of weaving. If the needle on the shorter end of the line bothers you, you can remove it for a while.

Weave all the next rows using the technique of brick stitch. At the beginning of the each row string onto the needle two seed beads together, and all the other beads in the row add by one. The direction of weaving at the each new row is reversed.

For weaving use the following pattern:

2nd row: yellow+yellow, 10 yellow, 1 pink and 4 yellow beads;
3rd row: yellow+yellow, 2 yellow, 2 pink, 4 yellow, 2 pink, 5 yellow;
4th row: yellow+yellow, 2 yellow, 1 brown, 4 pink, 2 yellow, 2 light-blue, 1 yellow, 2 green, 1 yellow;
5th row: yellow+green, 2 green, 1 yellow, 2 light-blue, 1 yellow, 4 pink, 2 brown, 3 yellow;
6th row: yellow+yellow, 1 yellow, 2 brown, 1 pink, 1 blue, 3 pink, 1 yellow, 5 green, 1 yellow;
7th row: yellow+yellow, 5 green, 1 pink, 1 red, 3 pink, 3 brown, 2 yellow;
8th row: yellow+brown, 4 brown, 1 pink, 1 black, 1 pink, 1 red, 5 green, 2 yellow;

10th row: yellow+yellow, 1 yellow, 2 brown, 1 pink, 1 blue, 3 pink, 1 yellow, 5 green, 1 yellow;
11th row: yellow+green, 2 green, 1 yellow, 2 light-blue, 1 yellow, 4 pink, 2 brown, 3 yellow;
12th row: yellow+yellow, 2 yellow, 1 brown, 4 pink, 1 yellow, 2 light-blue, 2 yellow, 2 green, 1 yellow;
13th row: yellow+yellow, 4 yellow, 2 pink, 2 yellow, 2 pink, 5 yellow;
14th row: yellow+yellow, 8 yellow, 1 pink, 6 yellow;

15th row: yellow+yellow, 4 yellow, 2 pink, 2 yellow, 2 pink, 5 yellow;
16th row: yellow+yellow, 2 yellow, 1 brown, 4 pink, 1 yellow, 2 light-blue, 2 yellow, 2 green, 1 yellow;
17th row: yellow+green, 2 green, 1 yellow, 2 light-blue, 1 yellow, 4 pink, 2 brown, 3 yellow;
18th row: yellow+yellow, 1 yellow, 2 brown, 1 pink, 1 blue, 3 pink, 1 yellow, 5 green, 1 yellow;
19th row: yellow+yellow, 5 green, 1 pink, 1 red, 3 pink, 3 brown, 2 yellow;
20th row: yellow+brown, 4 brown, 1 pink, 1 black, 1 pink, 1 red, 5 green, 2 yellow;
21st row: yellow+yellow, 5 green, 1 pink, 1 red, 3 pink, 3 brown, 2 yellow;
22nd row: yellow+yellow, 1 yellow, 2 brown, 1 pink, 1 blue, 3 pink, 1 yellow, 5 green, 1 yellow;
23rd row: yellow+green, 2 green, 1 yellow, 2 light-blue, 1 yellow, 4 pink, 2 brown, 3 yellow;
24th row: yellow+yellow, 2 yellow, 1 brown, 4 pink, 2 yellow, 2 light-blue, 1 yellow, 2 green, 1 yellow;
25th row: yellow+yellow, 2 yellow, 2 pink, 4 yellow, 2 pink, 5 yellow;
26th row: yellow+yellow, 10 yellow, 1 pink, 4 yellow;
27th row: yellow+yellow, 15 yellow beads.

Weaving is finished. In order to use this beaded fabric as a keychain, attach a ring for keys to it. After that secure both ends of the line. First, fix the working end of the line: pass it in a zigzag manner through several beads in the middle part of the beadwork and then cut it off. Next, proceed the same with the free tip of the line remaining at the beginning of the beadwork.

The keychain is finished!
