We continue a series of keychains with zodiac signs. Today is the turn of Pisces.
We will need:
- size 8 seed beads of four colors; I used seed beads of blue, orange, yellow and grey colors,
- nylon line of 0.25 mm in diameter and two beading needles (you can take only one needle because the second needle is used only at the initial stage, and this stage can be carried out without needles at all).
We will use a beading technique, which we hasn’t met before at our site - the brick stitch. In this bead weaving technique individual beads are stacked upon each other as bricks in a brick wall.
Take a nylon line with needles at both its ends. The whole beadwork requires a long nylon line, so I recommend you to take the line of a convenient length (about 1 meter or even shorter) and as soon as it becomes too short you should fasten it, take the new line, weave it into the product and continue weaving using this new segment of line.
The 1st row of our beadwork consists of a single chain of 18 blue seed beads. Start weaving not on the middle of the line, but about 25-30 cm from one of its ends. Use the technique of parallel beading and make 18 rows of one bead in the each row.
Put the chain on the worktable horizontally so that the longer end of the nylon line points up.
Continue weaving on the longer end of the line only. The shorter end of the line will be not involved in weaving any more, so leave it alone for now. We will fasten it at the final stage of weaving. If the needle on the shorter end of the line bothers you, you can remove it for a while.
Start weaving the 2nd row. String onto the nylon line 2 blue beads and pass the needle under the upper segment of the nylon line that connects two extreme beads of the 1st row.
Next, pass the needle backwards through the last added bead (i.e. lead the needle in the direction to the first bead of the 2nd row)
and after that tighten the nylon line. Be careful: as the nylon line folds in half during the weaving it may tear under high tension.
As a result, first two beads of the 2nd row have lain above the 1st row of beads so that the first bead of the 2nd row extends slightly beyond the edge of the 1st row and the second bead of the 2nd row is situated between the first and the second beads of the 1st row.
All the other beads in the 2nd row add one by one. The third bead should be situated between the second and the third beads of the 1st row. To do so string onto the nylon line a blue bead and pass the needle under the segment of the nylon line that connects the second and the third beads of the 1st row.
Then pass the needle backwards through the just added bead
and tighten the the nylon line.
In the same manner add all the next beads in the row. The fourth bead is blue.
The beads from 5th to 9th are blue too, the 10th bead is orange and the beads from 11th to 18th are blue.
To make the 3d row change the direction of weaving. Start the row in the same manner as the beginning of the 2nd row: string onto the nylon line 2 blue beads at once and pass the needle under the segment of the nylon line that connects two extreme beads of the 2nd row.
Then pass the needle backwards through the last added bead
and tighten the nylon line.
All the other beads in the 3rd row add one by one. The third bead is blue. String it onto the nylon line and pass the needle under the segment of the nylon line that connects the second and the third beads of the 2nd row.
After that pass the needle backwards through the just added bead
and tighten the the nylon line.
Continue weaving the 3rd row adding the beads by one in the following sequence: 3 blue, 2 orange, 1 blue, 2 orange, 7 blue.
Weave all the other rows similarly. In the beginning of the each row add two beads at once and all the other beads in the row add by one. The direction of weaving the each next row is reversed.
Continue weaving using the following pattern:
4th row: blue+blue, 3 blue, 4 orange, 1 blue, 1 orange, 1 grey, 2 orange, 4 blue beads.
5th row: blue+blue, 1 blue, 2 orange, 2 yellow, 1 orange, 1 blue, 6 orange, 3 blue.
6th row: blue+blue, 1 blue, 1 orange, 1 yellow, 1 orange, 2 blue, 2 orange, 1 blue, 1 orange, 3 yellow, 2 orange, 1 blue.
7th row: blue+orange, 1 orange, 3 yellow, 1 orange, 1 blue, 1 orange, 4 blue, 1 orange, 1 yellow, 1 orange, 2 blue.
8th row: blue+blue, 1 orange, 1 yellow, 1 orange, 6 blue, 2 orange, 3 yellow, 1 orange, 1 blue.
9th row: blue+orange, 3 yellow, 2 orange, 6 blue, 1 orange, 2 yellow, 1 orange, 1 blue.
10th row: blue+orange, 3 yellow, 2 orange, 6 blue, 1 orange, 2 yellow, 1 orange, 1 blue.
11th row: blue+blue, 1 orange, 1 yellow, 1 orange, 6 blue, 2 orange, 3 yellow, 1 orange, 1 blue.
12th row: blue+orange, 1 orange, 3 yellow, 1 orange, 1 blue, 1 orange, 4 blue, 1 orange, 1 yellow, 1 orange, 2 blue.
13th row: blue+blue, 1 blue, 1 orange, 1 yellow, 1 orange, 2 blue, 2 orange, 1 blue, 1 orange, 3 yellow, 2 orange, 1 blue.
14th row: blue+blue, 1 blue, 2 orange, 2 yellow, 1 orange, 1 blue, 6 orange, 3 blue.
15th row: blue+blue, 3 blue, 4 orange, 1 blue, 1 orange, 1 grey, 2 orange, 4 blue.
16th row: blue+blue, 4 blue, 2 orange, 1 blue, 2 orange, 7 blue.
17th row: blue+blue, 7 blue, 1 orange, 8 blue.
18th row: blue+blue, 16 blue beads.
Weaving is completed. Fasten both ends of the nylon line. First, fasten the working line: pass it in a zigzag manner through several beads and cut it off. After that proceed so with the free tip of the nylon line remaining at the beginning of weaving.
A flat beaded fabric in the brick stitch technique with an image of Pisces is finished. If you attach a ring for keys to it, you can use it as a keychain.
