Chinchilla

Beaded chinchilla

To make this little beaded animal we need:
- seed beads size 8 of grey, black and pink colors;
- wire 0.3 mm in diameter;
- thin nylon fishing line and a beading needle for cross-linking of finished figure.

We will use a 3-D beading technique that is well known to us. The upper tiers of beads will form the back of the chinchilla, and the lower tiers of beads - its tummy.

For weaving the head and the body of the chinchilla take a wire of 100 cm in length.

Start 3-D weaving from the 1st row:

1st row:
The upper tier: 1 pink bead.
The lower tier: 2 grey beads.

2nd row:
The upper tier: 5 grey beads.
The lower tier: 3 grey beads.

3rd row:
For the upper tier string the beads in the following sequence: 1 grey, 1 black, 3 grey, 1 black, 1 grey.
The lower tier: 5 grey beads.

4th row:
For the upper tier string 9 grey beads onto any end of the wire, pass the other end of the wire through them and then slightly pull the wires but do not tighten the wires at the moment.
Take an additional piece of wire of 15 cm in length and pass it through the 3 middle beads of the current tier.

Tighten the ends of the basic wire and continue weaving on them. We will use the additional wire later, for weaving ears of the chinchilla.

Next, make the lower tier of the 4th row: 6 grey beads.

5th row:
For the upper tier string 8 grey beads onto any end of the wire, pass the other end of the wire through them and then slightly pull the wires but do not tighten the wires at the moment.
Take another additional piece of wire of 15 cm in length and pass it through the 4 middle beads of the current tier.

Tighten the ends of the basic wire and continue weaving on them. We will use the additional wire later, for weaving ears of the chinchilla.

Next, make the lower tier of the 5th row: 7 grey beads.

6th row:
The upper tier: 6 grey beads.
The lower tier: 8 grey beads.

7th row:
The upper tier: 7 grey beads.

For the lower tier string 9 grey beads onto any end of the wire, pass the other end of the wire through them and then slightly pull the wires but do not tighten the wires at the moment.
Take two more additional pieces of wire of 15 cm in length each and pass them through the beads of the current tier as described beneath.
The first additional piece of wire pass through the 5 middle beads of the tier,

and the second additional piece of wire pass through the 3 middle beads of the tier.

Tighten the ends of the basic wire and continue weaving on them. We will use the additional wires later, for weaving forepaws of the chinchilla.

8th and 9th rows are the same:
The upper tier: 8 grey beads.
The lower tier: 9 grey beads.

10th row:
The upper tier: 7 grey beads.

For the lower tier string 8 grey beads onto any end of the wire, pass the other end of the wire through them and then slightly pull the wires but do not tighten the wires at the moment.
Take the last two additional pieces of wire of 15 cm in length each and pass them through the beads of the current tier as described beneath.
The first additional piece of wire pass through the 4 middle beads of the tier,

and the second additional piece of wire pass through the 2 middle beads of the tier.

Tighten the ends of the basic wire and continue weaving on them. We will use the additional wires later, for weaving hind paws of the chinchilla.

11th row:
The upper tier: 5 grey beads.
The lower tier: 5 grey beads.

Weaving of the body is finished.

Next, start weaving the tail using the same basic wire.

12th row:
The upper tier: 2 grey beads.
The lower tier: 2 grey beads.

13th row:
The upper tier: 3 grey beads.
The lower tier: 3 grey beads.

14th row:
The upper tier: 3 grey beads.
The lower tier: 3 grey beads.

Side view:

15th row:
The upper tier: 2 grey beads.
The lower tier: 2 grey beads.

16th row: only the upper tier - 1 grey bead.

Weaving of the body together with the tail is finished. Fix the basic wire. Pass any end of the wire through the beads of the penultimate row,

then twist together both ends of the wire

and cut them off.

Bend the tip of the wires and hide it between the rows of beads.

Proceed to weaving the ears.

Both ears are identical, weave them using the technique of flat parallel weaving and the following pattern:
1st row: 1 grey bead,
2nd row: 1 grey, 1 pink, 1 grey beads,
3rd row: 2 grey beads.

After making the first ear, fix and cut off the excess wires. Then bend the tip of the wires and hide it between the rows of beads.

Then in the same way make the other ear.

Next, make the paws.

All four paws are identical, weave them using the technique of flat parallel weaving and the following pattern:
1st row: 1 grey bead,
2nd row: 2 grey beads,
3rd row: 1 grey bead.

Fix the wires

and in the same way make all the other paws.

Weaving is completed. If you want the figure of chinchilla to be more tough, you can sew it with a thin nylon fishing line.
To do this, use the technique of cross-linking which is described in detail here or here. You should sew only the head and the body of the chinchilla. It is not necessary to sew the ears, tail and paws.

The beaded chinchilla is finished!
